Lunch will be Pot Luck. Please email Liz Hildreth if you are planning on attending and what you are bringing for the pot luck to share.

Guests are welcome.

What we'll do on Sunday October 3rd

- Some intro remarks about freestyle

- A couple of demos

- Then we put YOU to work learning some freestyle moves with your dog

- And finally, a chance for you to put it together and do a short routine to music

What you should bring if you'd like to try freestyle:

1. Your Sheltie. Don't worry if your dog needs to be on-lead. At the novice level, a LOT of moves can be done on-lead. That said, your dog does need to be under control. A dog that's fighting the lead or has a lot of puppy-type exuberance and doesn't pay any attention to you will be extremely hard to work.

2. Lots of soft treats (and your clicker if that's how you train). Actually, since this is a Sheltie meeting, make that lots AND LOTS of treats.

3. And need I say...comfortable clothes and shoes.

FMI and videos, see message below from Sandy...

Since pictures are worth a thousand words, I'd like to introduce you to freestyle by way of two videos. The first two links below show the range of styles that fall under the freestyle banner...from the dancing that most think of...to a themed skit carried out against a musical backdrop.  Both clips are freestyle classics...performed by two of the leading freestylers in the world.

Carolyn Scott and Rookie

(After watching the clip, would you believe Carolyn was paralyzed with childhood polio at age four and still has to compensate for some of the damage done?)

Attila Szkukalek and Fly

(I can't pronounce his last name either, but the freestyle community knows him as Attila, so that's good enough for me.)

Hey wait a minute...I have more than one dog...can I still do freestyle? Well, a gal by the name of Mary Ray can:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlDtArfqT_Y&feature=related
